Magical Girls
Setting of my magical girl ocs.
I keep all my magical girl ocs in the same universe, just placed in different time periods, or countries. If a group/character is not apart of this specific universe it will be clearly stated.
No one knew where the magic first started. Some believe the Goddess Gaia personally chooses who gets power, others believe they fall from the stars, recently there’s been an effort to actually track the magic roots in order to predict where they will bloom.
Regardless, the history of magical girls has occurred since the dawn of time, with many fables being chalked up to that time periods magical girls. Rare finds but anyone was capable of blooming the magic inside themselves and becoming a magical girl. Magical girls are called that as it was often women who stayed home to work with magic or fight against the magic that occurred, with the men being off at war. However modern day it's still thought of magical girls being "womans" work, despite magical boys (and others) existing.
A Bud
It is gathered that there are 3 ways of raw magic blooming in the wild. A bud- Aka magic that is implanted in an object. Anyone can bond with this object but it is temporary. Magic can run out, the bigger raw bud the more magic the item has.
Because the magic is temporary people tend to hoard magic items, sometimes using them as family heirlooms. Magical items are the most common way people become magical girls.
A Sprout
If an animal is imbued, they can also gain powers like anyone or anything else. If a sprout of magic is large enough there is a chance for that creature to gain sentience. Sentience like transformations doesnt drain the magic as much as using literal powers. It is however much more rare in the current day due to animal populations decreasing due to human intervention.
There are plenty of fables of talking animals that scholars believe to be the result of historical sprout transformations.
A Blossom
Raw roots of magic embedding into a person is quite rare, but can happen. Those embedded with a blossom are quite powerful, but one needs a clear mind to control the magic. A potential side effect of a blossom transformation is the person is stuck in whatever emotional state they were in at the time. The theme being around their current thoughts and emotions. The way to return to a normal life is to just keep using the powers until they run out. There are services that can be called to deal with such matters, other magical groups included.
